The service likewise said that the thickness of plastic convey sacks will be expanded from 50 microns to 75 microns from September 30, 2021, and to 120 microns from December 31, 2022. It said that the move will likewise permit plastic convey packs to be reused.

India produces around 9.46 million tons of plastic waste each year. This figure depends on the Central Pollution Control Board's projection that an expected 25,940 tons each day of plastic waste – identical to 1,030 loads at 25 tons for every truck – is produced in the country. 

Of this, 15,384 tons of plastic waste or almost 60% is gathered and reused while the excess 10,556 tons of the plastic waste remaining parts uncollected and littered in the climate, previous Union priest Prakash Javadekar had told the Lok Sabha in November 2019.
